 I really love being a children's book author, whether I am writing picture books for younger readers or non-fiction or novels for older ones. But for me, writing is not just about writing. It's about travel. As a children's book author, I've been invited to speak at schools and conferences all over America and as far away as Africa, India, China, and South America. When I speak, I like to show slides of my travels because I want to share my excitement with the wider world. This picture was taken on my way up to the Amber Fort in Jaipur, India. I'd been speaking at a school in New Delhi and had just come from seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra. It was a pretty rocky ride, but I loved it.
